The Ambassador Theatre Group is giving young children throughout the country the chance to star in the most acclaimed production ever of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s lavish musical SOUTH PACIFIC, which makes its only North East stop on the nationwide tour at the Sunderland Empire from 1 – 12 May 2012.
The roles needing to be played by local children on tour are Ngana and Jerome, the illegitimate children of Emile de Becque. Ngana (female) and Jerome (male) would need to be of a playing age between 7 and 11 years, black, mixed-raced Caucasian/black or similar dark skin tone, with some singing and movement skills. The producers also need to find a female child to play Bloody Mary’s native helper, who would have the same skills and appearance as, and understudy both the roles of, Ngana and Jerome.
To audition for any of the three roles for the performances of SOUTH PACIFIC at the Sunderland Empire from Tuesday 1 May to Saturday 12 May 2012, people need to send an email with name, photograph, age and contact details to jo.hawes@virgin.net to arrange an audition, which will take place in the week of 5 March 2012 in Sunderland – venue to be confirmed.

GOURMANDS with a passion for fine French wine and cheese are being given the chance to sample both in the luxurious surroundings of a top North East hotel.
Wynyard Hall Country House Hotel, in the Tees Valley, is holding a Flavours of France wine tasting evening on Thursday, March 1, the first in a series of tasting events to be held at the four-star venue.
Guests will be able to try a selection of eight wines from the hotel’s own suppliers along with a variety of French cheeses, specially chosen by chefs from its two AA-rosette Wellington Restaurant, to complement the wines.
A leading wine expert will also be on hand throughout the evening to provide information about the chosen wines and the vineyards which produce them.
The event is the first of a trio of wine evenings to be held throughout the year at the hotel, which sits at the end of a sweeping drive in acres of private parkland and recently unveiled its £500,000 spa facility overlooking the lake.
On Wednesday, July 18, the Mediterranean Marvels evening will give guests the opportunity to try a range of wines from this established region, while Australian wines will take centre stage at The Wizardry Wines of Oz event on Thursday, October 11.
